"Lies with his pillow on fire" seems like a sensical interpretation to me. I guess the actual construction is just a little more expected. It also better fits the hint that said that fire was the earthquake's pillow.

Voice of the THIRD SPIRIT In the blue depth of the waters, Where the wave hath no strife, Where the wind is a story, (there's no wind at all in the depths of the sea; two syllables) And the sea-snake hath life, Where the Mermaid is decking Her green hair with shells; Like the storm on the surface Came the sound of thy spells; O'er my calm Hall of Coral The deep echo roll'd-- To the Spirit of Ocean Thy wishes unfold!
FOURTH SPIRIT Where the slumbering earthquake Lies pillow'd on fire, And the lakes of bitumen Rise b______ higher; (the lakes of bitumen rise as they b______) Where the roots of the Andes Strike deep in the earth, As their summits to heaven Shoot soaringly forth; I have quitted my birth-place, Thy bidding to bide-- Thy spell hath subdued me, Thy will be my guide!
FIFTH SPIRIT I am the Rider of the wind, The Stirrer of the storm; The hurricane I left behind Is yet with lightning warm; To speed to thee, o'er shore and sea (a word in this line tells you the setting for the last two) I swept upon the blast: The f______ I met soared well, and yet 'Twill sink ere night be past.

Voice of the THIRD SPIRIT In the blue depth of the waters, Where the wave hath no strife, Where the wind is a s______, (there's no wind at all in the depths of the sea; two syllables; anthropomorphic) And the sea-snake hath life, Where the Mermaid is decking Her green hair with shells; Like the storm on the surface Came the sound of thy spells; O'er my calm Hall of Coral The deep echo roll'd-- To the Spirit of Ocean Thy wishes unfold!
FOURTH SPIRIT Where the slumbering earthquake Lies pillow'd on fire, And the lakes of bitumen Rise b______ higher; (the lakes of bitumen rise as they b______; it may help to think of a pot of milk on the stove) Where the roots of the Andes Strike deep in the earth, As their summits to heaven Shoot soaringly forth; I have quitted my birth-place, Thy bidding to bide-- Thy spell hath subdued me, Thy will be my guide!
FIFTH SPIRIT I am the Rider of the wind, The Stirrer of the storm; The hurricane I left behind Is yet with lightning warm; To speed to thee, o'er shore and sea (a word in this line tells you the setting for the last two) I swept upon the blast: The f______ I met s______ well, and yet (what kind of thing sinks in the sea, and what does that kind of thing do there before it sinks?) 'Twill sink ere night be past.

Or more likely "frigate", unless he's using " 'Twil" weirdly.

Not too far off.

I'd prefer a 3-syllable word but oh well.
