Oh no, I think he's harmless (if you consider being a grave threat to people's bank accounts to be harmless). But he talks about his doofers as if they were the keys to heaven, and he's so fluent in Corporatese/tech bullshit.

I don't know if it shows, but part of what's bothering me in the case of Apple, Musk and other tech entities is that I could have been part of the tech&consumerism cult. I used to be a tech-enthusiast you could say, and I still appreciate convenient, well-made technological stuff more than most people do. A few people have told me I would've made for a good salesman because of my propensity to extol the virtues of the latest gadget I've bought. In an alternate universe I may have been applauding Mr Cook's touching tribute to his doofers "helping us stay healthy, connected, productive and entertained". I would slap the other me in the face if we met, but I would sympathize to a certain extent: the trap was enticing.

Bad design choice to have made human laughter and cry sound and look so similar at times, what with the spasms, vocalization and tears. On the other hand, it's the gift that keeps on giving as far as audiovisual fiction writers are concerned.

Fascinating. I would have liked it even better if the recording weren't by the researcher herself though. The fact that I didn't interpret it as music right away proves her point about music perception well enough, but she could have made a broader point by using a randomly selected recording by a random speaker.
Also, it reminded me of Adam Neely's, a music theory YouTuber I may have mentioned before, catchphrase: repetition legitimizes. However strange something might sound (a "wrong note" for instance), repeating it can make it sound like music.

Absolutely crazy yeah. Very dystopian, too.
It seems people still wonder what happened. My best bet is that the Israeli services tampered with them in the factory where they were made. Perhaps Hezbollah exclusively or mainly uses one pager model or brand.

A former British Army munitions expert, who asked not to be named, told the BBC the devices would have likely been packed with between 10 to 20 grams each of military-grade high explosive, hidden inside a fake electronic component.
This, said the expert, would have been armed by a signal, something called an alphanumeric text message.
Once armed, the next person to use the device would have triggered the explosive. Less than 1% of the exploding pagers have so far proved fatal, but with hundreds seriously injured this is a major psychological blow to Hezbollah.
