On the other hand, you could say that that's the point of contemporary art: it's often more philosophy (to use the term broadly) than art. Whatever floats their boats.

The Pope was in Belgium these past four days. He just left. He celebrated a big mass before leaving, during which he announced that he's going to start a beatification process for our king Baudouin. Yesterday, the Pope paid homage at the grave of that same king, and praised him for opposing the legalization of abortion (see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baudouin_of_Belgium#Religious_influences ). Of course, the Pope's praise caused outrage. I always find it funny when people are angry with the Pope for expressing Catholic views. I mean... he's the Pope.

Don't you have to do a few miracles before you're eligible?

I wonder how people would react if a Western elected head of state was considered for beatification. Maybe it simply wouldn't happen for political reasons. Of course, the Pope's praise caused outrage. I always find it funny when people are angry with the Pope for expressing Catholic views. I mean... he's the Pope. If they find it to be reprehensible, I can't see why they shouldn't criticize the view in question or the person for expressing it. Like, holding racist views is bad, but it wouldn't be hard to argue that expressing them is worse. That said, while I'm definitely in favor of the right to abort, I've never taken people's opposition to it lightly, whether on religious grounds or not.

Don't you have to do a few miracles before you're eligible? That's all part of The Process. If the candidate's life is thought to be a "standard" for Christians to follow, then s/he'll be declared a Servant of God. People will start praying, asking for the SoG's intercession on various matters, and we wait and see if there are any resulting miracles. Apart from the usual strict criteria for what constitutes a miracle, there are also strict criteria for what constitutes the SOG's intercession and not somebody else's. i.e. the SOG's intercession alone must have been sought and not half a dozen of the usual sainted suspects as well.

Disagreeing with the Pope on the authentic teaching of the Church (as opposed to papal opinion) is a privilege of those outside the Church. Anyone on the inside who wants to reject revealed doctrine should bugger off and found their own cult. That's one of the reasons why I have respect for Father Martin Luther; against all the odds, he made the necessary sacrifices, endured the dangers to his personal safety and life, and did exactly that. The letter from the "Catholic" scholars and students of the University of Leuven/Louvain was a joke. The truths of the Faith are immutable. If anyone doesn't accept that, they'll find the outside door unlocked. We don't keep prisoners.

It was a bit cringy to watch the Pope receive their moral lesson, lol. Well, I didn't watch all of it; only the short excerpt the news showed me.

I didn't get the thing about "what's the place of women in that encyclical (on preserving the environment)"? I mean, I would expect an encyclical on preserving the environment to talk about the role of people in general, regardless of gender. But maybe I should go and read the actual text.

But maybe I should go and read the actual text. Isn't there any paint drying at home that you could watch instead? I'd never read anything Francis writes. He's an occasion of sin.

People who want to change everything but the name of whatever group they're part of are generally annoying *side-eyes the Socialist Party*

There are those angry at him for being too Catholic, and those angry at him because they think he's not Catholic enough.

Maybe a good Belgian Catholic patriot will.
