It sounds moronic & pretentious, but I've actually had my own little ditty stuck in my head the past few days. I woke up one morning and had this line in my head that I just had to turn into a tune (a stultifying ballad of a Highland complexion). Later I can sit at the 'board & get the chord notation, but the so-far lyrics are these:
†Alas for old Rory O'Conor anointed Eire's king, bright & brave: he ruled from high mountain to the lowliest dale, but lieth enow neath the grave.
'Tis hard so a man of sich largesse, that gave of his riches, should fall: who fought with the Saxon & slew many a one under traitorous Dermot na nGall.
†This is the lyric that popped quite out of nowhere; truly mystifying.

It sounds moronic & pretentious, but I've actually had my own little ditty stuck in my head the past few days. It doesn't. I remember reading an interview of Liam Gallagher and thought he was the most pretentious man to ever have lived, because he said something like "we're the best fucking band ever". But it then occurred to me that if you're not at least among your favorite artists, it means you're doing something wrong as you're supposed to make the music you'd like to hear. It's not easy to do things right, but apparently, he figured it out.

It sounds moronic & pretentious... †This is the lyric that popped quite out of nowhere; truly mystifying. These things happen! I have a friend, who woke up one morning with a perfectly worked out Irish language poem in her head. All she had to do was find a piece of paper and write it out. It was correct in its metres for the style it imitated. Don't ask me what that was; I hate poetry with a vengeance and know nothing about it beyond The McGonagall.

By the way, he first wanted this song to be about Scotland, but since neither he nor his author knew anything about that country, they chose another one they knew nothing about instead. Indeed. Conamara is a desolate shitehole, so desolate even the English didn't want it and just used it to dump the native Irish cleared off areas with better land. Whenever I hear of proposals to re-wild Conamara, I laugh loudly. Maybe they should try unwilding first. I'd definitely be in favour of reintroducing wolves there. The old mac tire would add a bit of culture to the place. Your song reminds me of one Billy Connolly's routines in which he goes on about a London songwriter's attempt to write a song about Islay, an island he had never even seen a picture of - obviously. The song goes on about the mighty hills up there and the glorious valleys doon here. Billy points out that Islay is as flat as a pancake...

There are a lot of distilleries on Islay, aren't there? People do whiskey tours, so I wouldn't be surprised if they supplied their own rolling hills, as it were.
I can't remember which US president gave a speech in Berlin in which he said, 'Berlin is a city set on a hill.' OK, it was a metaphor, but it sounded odd in a city which is largely flat.
I'm not sure I understand why people would want to write songs about places they have never been to, and have no knowledge of. You'd think they'd at least read up on it to be able to bluff. Doesn't it occur to them that people might hear it who do know they're talking a load of rubbish, and laugh at them?

You'd think they'd at least read up on it to be able to bluff. So unfair: the French Wiki article states that Sardou and his author had consulted a Tourism Leaflet on Connemara. Maybe, but there are two objections. Thinking something isn't the same as saying it. Also, it's Liam fucking Gallagher. I'll remember this day as the day Etaoin Shrdlu appeared to imlply honesty wasn't always desirable.

Incidentally, if you want to remove a nested quote, and one generally does, the only way get rid of it completely is to switch from Preview mode to BBCode (bottom left) and edit it out that way. Yes, I know it's a faff.

I found two ProBoards plugins that are supposed to allow you the option of quoting selected text, but neither seems to work, at least in my browser.

It's been stuck in my head since yesterday:
A song I quite like, so it's okay.

I'm probably more prone to having songs stuck in mind than the average. I listen to music a lot, but when I don't, the latest song that made an impression on me often keeps playing.
Incidentally, I love Souchon, but the "homesick foreigner" theme is a bit overused in music.

It happens to be topical (kind of), but it's a song I listen to very regularly and that's stuck in my head right now. Sia might just be my favorite singer, or top three at least: technical mastery AND emotion, catchy hooks and melodies, tasty harmonies, great timbre. Also, contrary to most pop singers in her style, she composes and writes most of her stuff.
