I wasn't sure so I looked it up. The definition of the Maghreb has changed over time but now Lybia is part of the "Arab Maghreb Union", so... The English Wikipedia article straightforwardly says: "The region comprises western and central North Africa, including Algeria, Libya, Mauritania (also considered part of West Africa), Morocco, and Tunisia." Yes, that seems to be the current definition (but, from what I gather, it hasn't always been that way). |

Germans not only misspell Libyen as Lybien quite often, but usually pronounce it as if it were so written.
