Etaoin initiated this thread on our facebook group ... so I'll just quote her concerning the rules of this quiz thread. There essentially are none: The no-holds-barred rolling quiz thread. You may use whatever search engine or printed reference work you choose to consult, should the answer not come immediately to mind. You may consult the I Ching or scrutinise the entrails of any animal corpse you like, although I would urge you not to commit murder in order to do so. You may even ask a more knowledgeable friend, but if you do, perhaps consider tempting them to join our burgeoning group, because they sound like our type of misfit. Some question just came to my mind, and I wonder if you can figure this out with google: Which chess player has 2 grandmaster titles? As far as I know, there is only one ... but I can't completely rule out that there are more than that. If you find other ones than the one I'm thinking of, I'll at least feel enlightened. Edit: I actually found 2 players who qualify ... can you name one of them?

Ok, you turned out to be the one to enlighten me I didn't actually know Piorun for being a great solving afficionado. How did you find that out?

I googled "chess players with two grandmaster titles", and found this page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Chess_double_grandmastersThen I looked at the entries and made sure to pick one who was alive and whose individual page clearly indicated two grandmaster titles (not all seem to, but I haven't read them attentively either).

Which mispronunciation did one of Muhammad's Companions habitually commit, according to a Hadith that is usually considered unauthentic?

Looks like there are more than I thought. I suppose next time I'll have to ask for the one who has 3 titles.

There may be a joke I don't get there. Obviously he wasn't speaking English.

Did he mispronounce the Arabic word for "to say" or "he said"?

If he did, I wasn't aware and it isn't the story I had in mind. Did you actually find that somewhere?

I'm eager to find out how many countries witnessed both a left-wing and a right-wing dictatorship ... does anyone know? I don't know if anyone knows, as opposed to "thinks", since everybody would have to agree on what the political left and right are, on the criteria for labeling a given regime as either left-wing or right-wing (as opposed to a blend of both, or to utter ideological nonsense, for instance), and on the definition of dictatorship, not to mention the cases where the events predate the invention of those terms and the possible anachronisms this could lead to.
But this looks like a fun game.
